Swavalambana

The Ashram runs a Multi Skill Development center for under privileged and enterprising girls and women mostly from outside the Ashrama. Though Swavalambana is the name given recently, the activity exists since almost the founding of the institution. Tailoring is the oldest craft taught. There were weaving, Mid-wifery, Nursing with some programmes becoming obsolete later. Now Abalashrama aims to train enterprising, deprived and deserving women and make them self-reliant.

Early 2000 saw many new skills being taught. Tailoring continued to dominate. Now we have free ‘Tailoring’ – in a new name ‘Fashion Technology’, Beauty and Health care, Computer skills, Hospital services, Photography, 4-wheeler Driving, commercial Cookery. Spoken English and Life Skills are included in the training programme.

MSDC creates congenial atmosphere for its training programmes. It has a well trained staff too. Motivational sessions are often held to boost the morale of trainees. All the training programmes are equipped with needed equipments. The trainees are encouraged to opt for one trade and take that one as a profession, earn and add to their family income. Many women are benefitted by the programmes undertaken by swavalambana.
Now Swavalambana is taking a big leap. It is joining hands with the Ministry of skill development, GOI, under PMKK (Prime minister Kaushal Kendra) and imparting skill training in several computer based job roles. The infrastructure is complete and the PMKK is ready to take off.
